Tibetan panel to look into MC notices on illegal structures

DHARAMSHALA: With the Dharamshala municipal corporation issuing notices to Tibetan entities regarding illegal constructions, Tibetan settlement office has formed a committee to deal with the issue. It had filed written complaints to various authorities regarding the road near the high-profile building that remained blocked due to the illegal structures in the vicinity. Already, 160 properties in this region were facing closure over illegal constructions.While the notices were issued earlier this month reply for which is yet awaited, various meetings have been taking place within the Tibetan community to discuss the matter. Power and water supply of some of the illegal buildings have been disconnected and it will be the same for others, if found violating norms. In many cases people have sought permissions for residential accommodations, but have raised hotels over it.One of the heritage buildings of this hill destination that houses the office of ministry of external affairs too had raised the issue.

According to well placed sources, about 26 notices have been issued to the Tibetans and these include monasteries, guest houses and hotels run by them.It was on May 29 that the Himachal Pradesh high court acting on a PIL filed by local residents directed the civic body to take action in this regard.Dharamshala municipal commissioner Sandeep Kadam told TOI on Saturday that they had issued the notices on July 9 and further action was underway.“We have issued notices in accordance with the high court order and appropriate action will be taken in this regard. Power and water supply of some of the illegal buildings have been disconnected and it will be the same for others, if found violating norms. At present we are awaiting records that have been sought from such building owners,” he added.When contacted, Tibetan settlement officer at Mcleodganj Dawa Rinchen refused to comment on the matter, saying that he was attending a meeting and could not talk at that moment.There are many serious violations in this hill town.
