Girl dies of snakebite at Tanda hospital minister orders probe

Pathania had said that that most cases of snakebites were reported from lower Himachal Pradesh, but there was no facility to treat them at medical college, Tanda.He had also raised the shortage of ventilators and staff at the medical college.Parmar said Tanda Medical College and Hospital was a prestigious health institute of the state.

Parmar has ordered the formation of a “high-level” committee, including doctors of Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Shimla, and asked it to submit a report in five days.IGMC head of medicine department Dr Dilip Gupta, head of forensic medicine department Dr Piyush Kapila, and senior medical superintendent Dr Janak Raj are among members of the panel.During the state’s budget session, BJP’s Nurpur MLA, Rakesh Pathania, had said there weren’t enough facilities to handle snakebite cases at the medical college. Pathania had said that that most cases of snakebites were reported from lower Himachal Pradesh, but there was no facility to treat them at medical college, Tanda.He had also raised the shortage of ventilators and staff at the medical college.Parmar said Tanda Medical College and Hospital was a prestigious health institute of the state. “I am pained to learn about the death of a girl who was admitted in this hospital after a snake bit her,” he said. “If there is any lapse on part of the hospital, stern action will be taken,” he said.Priyanka’s family had claimed that there was no senior doctor to attend to her when she was brought to the hospital. They claimed that doctors reached only when she could not be saved.
