Youth Congress workers cane-charged outside Himachal assembly, many injured

SHIMLA: Many Youth Congress workers were injured along with some policemen after police resorted to cane charge following stone pelting incident. He claimed that Youth Congress workers were coming to put for their demand but police resorted to lathi charge in which workers were injured. Youth Congress workers had arrived in Shimla to gherao the state assembly and incident occurred when police stopped them from marching towards the assembly. Later, protesters blocked the road.On coming to know about the incident, Mukesh Agnihotri raised the issue in the assembly and demanded a probe to look into the incident. He said that Jai Ram Thakur should order a probe to look into the matter.

Youth Congress workers had arrived in Shimla to gherao the state assembly and incident occurred when police stopped them from marching towards the assembly. Agitated over the cane charging, Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri raised the issue in the House and not satisfied with the reply of government, opposition legislators raised slogans inside the assembly and later staged a walkout.Youth Congress had planned a protest march on the issue of rising prices of essential commodities, unemployment, a crime against women and deteriorating law and order situation in the state.As per the schedule, hundreds of youth Congress workers arrived near the state assembly but they were stopped with heavy deployment of police force right near the assembly. During the jostling between, protesters and police stone pelting started and police resorted to cane charge in which around 10 protester were injured and around 5 policemen including an ASP was injured.Police is claiming that the situation worsened about Youth Congress workers starting stone pelting while protesters are claiming that stone pelting started from the police side. To disperse the crowd, police had also used water cannons. Later, protesters blocked the road.On coming to know about the incident, Mukesh Agnihotri raised the issue in the assembly and demanded a probe to look into the incident. Claiming that no satisfactory reply has come from government, Congress members raised slogans inside the House and staged a walkout in protest.While speaking to media persons outside the assembly, Agnihotri said that cane charge incident is serious but Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur led government is taking it lightly. He claimed that Youth Congress workers were coming to put for their demand but police resorted to lathi charge in which workers were injured. He said that Jai Ram Thakur should order a probe to look into the matter.
