Himachal Pradesh: Three convicts of Yug Gupta kidnapping and murder case awarded death penalty

SHIMLA: In sensational Yuga Gupta kidnapping and murder case , all three convicts were awarded Capital punishment by the Court of District and Session Judge, Shimla, Virender Singh. On August 6, Court had held them guilty of kidnapping or abducting for murder, wrongful confinement to extort property and causing disappearance of evidence of offence. Court on Wednesday pronounced death penalty to them.Yug Gupta (4) was kidnapped on June 14, 2014 from Shimla and his skeletal remains were recovered from a water tank at Keleston area of Shimla on August 22, 2016. In the wake of pronouncement of sentence, tight security arrangements were made outside the Court premises on Wednesday.Yug Gupta was kidnapped on June 14, 2014 from Dwarkagarh building at Ram Bazaar Shimla. Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by DSP (Crime) Dhan Sukh Dutta carried the investigation.During Investigation accused Chander Sharma (26), Tejinder Pal (29) and Vikrant Bakshi (22) all residents of Shimla were arrested on August 22, 2016 on the charged of kidnapping and murdering Yug Gupta.

In this regard, a case FIR was registered on June 16, 2014 under section 364 (kidnapping or abducting for murder), 347 (wrongful confinement to extort property), 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC at Sadar Police Station on the statement of Pinki Gupta (mother of Yug Gupta).Initial investigation was conducted by district police Shimla, later on investigation of this case was transferred to state CID on August 14, 2014 by the order of DGP. Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by DSP (Crime) Dhan Sukh Dutta carried the investigation.During Investigation accused Chander Sharma (26), Tejinder Pal (29) and Vikrant Bakshi (22) all residents of Shimla were arrested on August 22, 2016 on the charged of kidnapping and murdering Yug Gupta. Accused during interrogation had revealed that they had disposed off the body of kidnapped child in water storage tank of Municipal Corporation situated in Keleston in Bharari a week after kidnapping on June 21, 2014.On the basis of disclosure of the accused, search of Municipal Corporation drinking water storage tank at Keleston was conducted in the presence of witnesses, by the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) and CID Special Investigation Team besides Irrigation and Public Health Department staff on August 22, 2016.During the inspection of water tank and its surrounding, pieces of skull were found outside the tank on ground under the ladder which connects the water tank from road side besides concrete slab tied with plastic rope and straps with red and brown colored stains recovered inside the water tank along with few pieces of bones.Investigation had revealed that after kidnapping the child, three accused had not only left the body starved but also subjected him to torture and forced him to consume liquor.Kidnapping and murder of Yug Gupta had resulted into widespread resentment in Shimla and people besides holding massive demonstration had also taken out candle light processions. Issue was even raised in the state assembly.
