CM Jai Ram Thakur hints at Cellular jailstyle show

Not many know that Mahatama Gandhi and his assassin Nathuram Godse had Shimla connection.Gandhi had visited Shimla 10 times before his death while Godse's trial was conducted at Hotel Peterhoff building in Shimla where the trial also took place. SHIMLA: Taking inspiration from the Cellular Jail of Andamans, where the saga of heroic freedom struggle is narrated to visitors through a light and sound show, Himachal Pradesh too is going to take the initiative of narrating stories related to the colonial past of Shimla town to tourists. He said that many historic buildings and places like Town Hall, Gaiety Theatre, church, Bantony Castle, advanced studies institute and others where Mahatama Gandhi had stayed or British officers stayed would be included.The CM said that the idea behind holding such a show was that besides seeing the scenic locations and important places, tourists could also know the history of Shimla. This show would either be held at Rani Jhansi Park or Bantony Castle.Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur said he himself had witnessed the 45-minute show of the Cellular Jail, which leaves everybody emotional.He said Himachal Pradesh had a vast potential for tourism and Shimla remained the summer capital of India under the British rule, so officials had been directed to look into the possibility of having a similar show narrating the historical importance of Shimla.
