SHIMLA: For setting up solar power projects, the Himachal Pradesh government has decided to give preference to bona fide Himachalis. To harness 20MW of solar power, preparations have already been started to invite applications in this regard. Those desirous of applying for solar projects should have their own land and if the applicant does not have his own land then it should be a leased one. He said that a solar rooftop plant costs Rs 60,000 per kW. He further said that to harness 20MW of solar power in the state, projects of the capacity of 250-500kW would be set up, for which 40-80 applications would be accepted.

SHIMLA: For setting up solar power projects, the Himachal Pradesh government has decided to give preference to bona fide Himachalis. To harness 20MW of solar power, preparations have already been started to invite applications in this regard. Those desirous of applying for solar projects should have their own land and if the applicant does not have his own land then it should be a leased one. Also there should be availability of 11KV and 22 KV transmission lines nearby.Interacting with mediapersons in Shimla on Wednesday, Himurja CEO Ashutosh Garg said that power produced by these solar projects would be purchased by the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited. He further said that to harness 20MW of solar power in the state, projects of the capacity of 250-500kW would be set up, for which 40-80 applications would be accepted. He said that for one such solar project 20-25 bighas were required and per MW cost would come around to Rs 4 crore.He said that the state government was giving priority to set up rooftop solar power plants under which the Centre had approved production of 12.5MW of solar power in the state. Garg said approval had been given to install 8MW projects on rooftops of residential buildings, trusts and societies, 2MW project in Shimla city and 2.5MW in government buildings and the target has been set to complete the project by December next year.The CEO further said that in Shimla, 62 government buildings had been identified where rooftop solar projects would be set up by December next year. He said that a solar rooftop plant costs Rs 60,000 per kW. He said that in the state the potential of wind energy too was being explored. He said that 1,000MW solar park at Kaza in Lahaul-Spiti district would be developed only after a transmission line was laid for the power produced.
