Jawan shoots dead 2 colleagues kills himself in Dharamshala

DHARAMSHALA: A jawan of 18 Sikh Regiment murdered two of his colleagues with his service weapon in the Dharamshala cantonment and then killed himself with the same gun. He entered the barracks between 2 am and 3 am on Monday morning and shot dead Havildar Hardeep Singh and Naik Harpal Singh, who were sleeping on their beds, with his INSAS rifle . Their blood-stained bodies were recovered from the beds.The two soldiers died on the spot. The Army said Hardeep belonged to Tarn Taran and had completed 23 years in the Army and Harpal, who had been in the Army for over 18 years, was from Gurdaspur.Jasbir, who had joined the unit six months ago, shot himself dead after killing his two colleagues. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered by the Army into the incident.All three soldiers were residents of Punjab and were deployed in the 18 Sikh Regiment.Sepoy Jasbir Singh, from Barnala , was on duty from 2 am till 6 am at the officers’ mess.

His body, in uniform, was found lying on the ground in a pool of blood.The actual reason for fratricide is yet to be known, but there are indications that a verbal duel between the three soldiers triggered the incident.Badri Singh, assistant superintendent of police said investigation agencies were probing the reason for this drastic step, but nothing could be confirmed till the filling of this report.
