Weather alert lsquoVery heavy rainfallrsquo expected in Punjab Himachal Pradesh

CHANDIGARH: Punjab is expected to receive widespread and heavy rainfall from Saturday to Monday. Gurdaspur Jalandhar , Amritsar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Nawashahr, Ropar, Patiala, Mohali and adjoining area are likely to receive “very heavy” to “extremely heavy rains”. The state government has advised district authorities to take adequate measures.A state government spokesperson said there was “very high probability of heavy to very heavy rainfall” in adjoining areas of Himachal Pradesh also, so it may cause waterlogging in low-lying areas. According to the Union ministry of earth sciences, many districts in Doaba, Majha and Malwa are likely to rain between 7cm and 12cm (heavy rain), and even more than 12cm (very heavy).As per the alert, there is “very high probability” of “extremely heavy rainfall” in north-eastern and south-eastern parts of Punjab during this period.
