Rain, snow in Himachal Pradesh, temperature falls

SHIMLA: Cold conditions swept most parts of upper Himachal Pradesh on Saturday after incessant rain and fresh snowfall on Rohtang Pass and other mountain passes. Fresh snow in high-altitude areas has led to a sudden drop in temperature.Tourists at Rohtang Pass enjoyed the snowfall, while sudden change in weather affected life in Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, and Pangi-Bharmaur. Heavy rainfall warning has been issued at few places of the state for Sunday and Monday.Rohtang Pass received 5cm snowfall, while Kunzum Pass recorded 10cm snowfall. Since Friday evening, many parts of the state had been receiving incessant rainfall. Vehicular traffic along Manali-Leh highway came to a standstill after snowfall.

Many roads were blocked due to landslides and falling boulders.Manali sub-divisional magistrate Raman Garsangi said, as a precautionary measure, tourists had been stopped from heading towards he mountain pass beyond Gulaba check post.According to Shimla Meteorological Centre, monsoon activity was vigorous in the past 24 hours. Rainfall occurred at most places over the state due to which maximum temperatures decreased by up to 2°C.In the state, Renuka recorded 67mm rainfall, Nahan 63mm, Bhoranj 53mm, Solan and Palampur 50mm each, Kheri 43mm, Kandaghat 41mm, Baldwara and Arki 40mm each, Rajgarh 38mm , Dharamshala 37mm, Dharampur 36mm, Kotkhai 33mm, Mashobra 31mm, Shimla 29mm, Kufri 27mm, Sujanpur Tihra 23mm, Gohar and Sarkaghat 22mm each, Jubberhatti and Paonta 21mm each, Una, Baijnath and Bharari 18mm each, Barsar and Karsog 17mm each, Guler 16mm, Salooni, Ghumarwin and Kalpa 15mm each, Aghar 14mm, Dalhousie 13mm, Seobagh, Bijahi, and Sundarnagar 11mm each, Sunnibhajji, Kasauli and Kumarsain 10mm each, Rampur and Bangana 9mm each, and Hamirpur 8mm.
