International paragliding championship starts from October 27

DHARAMSHALA: Pilots from across the world are registering themselves for the international paraliding championship at Bir-Billing in Kangra district. If tests are successful, the device will be used in the international championship and pilots will be visible online.Pilots from Korea and Australia have reached this region for practice and others are expected soon. The event will be organized from October 27 to November 3.Special area development authority ( SADA ), chaired by the area sub-divisional magistrate organized the championship, which has received 157 registrations so far. Those who qualify will get clearance.Earlier, Billing Paragliding Association was authorized to organize various paragliding events in the area but it was headed by a Congress minister. This time, the government has not involved any private agency in paragliding events.An accuracy cup will also be organized here next week.

The number was expected to cross 200 this month.“There were 19 women pilots from China, India, Kazakhstan and Czechoslovakia. The male pilots are from Russia, Switzerland, United States and United Kingdom” said Vikas Shukla, SDM, Baijnath. He said not all pilots would get clearance from authorities as there were set norms by the FAI (World Federation For Air Sports). Those who qualify will get clearance.Earlier, Billing Paragliding Association was authorized to organize various paragliding events in the area but it was headed by a Congress minister. This time, the government has not involved any private agency in paragliding events.An accuracy cup will also be organized here next week. Indian Army jawans will participate in the event, during which tracker devices will be tested.This device will keep track of every activity of the pilot from take-off to landing. If tests are successful, the device will be used in the international championship and pilots will be visible online.Pilots from Korea and Australia have reached this region for practice and others are expected soon.
