DHARAMSHALA: On Wednesday, a team of mountaineers and district officials have resecued about 14 deras of shepherds by evening. Each dera comprises two to four shepherds, about 300 to 500 livestock.According to Sub-Divisional Magistrate Baijnath Vilas Shukla, those resecued were safe. The shepherds have started to cross the Muraladhar Pass, located at an atltitude of 4,500 mtr from the sea level by Wednesday afternoon.He said that a trail has been formed across Muraladhar Pass and the remaning shepherds and their livestock would be rescued in the next two days. "Clear skies are predicted for the next two days. We expect to rescue the shepherds easily in the coming days," added Shukla.About 150 shepherds and an estimated 15,000-strong livestock were trapped in Bara Bhangal rally since September 21. The district administration had failed miserably to assist the stranded shepherds. On October 5, a few officials, including the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, visited the region in a helicopter. But they claimed that no one was stranded. It was only after a few videos went viral on social media, showing the pathetic situation of the shepherds that teams were constituted and were sent. At present four teams comprising 32 people, including mountaneers.
