Russian tourist gang-raped by two in Manali

MANALI: A 33-year-old Russian tourist, who was walking from Old Manali to Manali town via Dhungri village early on Friday morning, was allegedly raped by two unidentified men in a reserve forest.The Russian woman lodged a police complaint on Friday morning. She was walking with a Nepalese man and took the wrong path from Old Manali to Manali town via Dhungri at 12.30 am on Friday, she said in her complaint. They threatened the Nepalese man, who was forced to flee, and dragged her into the forest between Dhungri and Manali town and raped her, the complaint added. The Nepalese man is yet to be traced. The survivor, sources said, arrived in Manali a few days ago.

Two unidentified men started chasing her and her companion. They threatened the Nepalese man, who was forced to flee, and dragged her into the forest between Dhungri and Manali town and raped her, the complaint added. The survivor, sources said, arrived in Manali a few days ago. The Nepalese man is yet to be traced. Kullu SP Shalini Agnihotri said a case under Sections 376D (gang-rape), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of IPC was registered after the survivor filed a written complaint ."The accused and the crime scene are still unidentified. Medical examination of the victim is being conducted. Sniffer dogs have been deployed to find evidence, and CCTV footage is being examined," the SP said.
