Russian tourist, 33, gang-raped in Manali

Manali: A 33-year-old Russian tourist, who was walking from Old Manali to Manali town via Dhungri village on intervening night of Thursday and Friday was allegedly gang raped by two unidentified men in the reserved forest.The Russian woman lodged a police complaint about the gang rape early on Friday morning. The survivor, who was walking accompanied by a Nepalese man, said in her complaint that she had taken the wrong path while walking from Old Manali to Manali town by taking a short-cut via Dhungri at 12.30 am on Friday. Both the accused will be behind the bars very soon,” the SP said.OLD CASESOn May 30 this year, a 30-year-old Japanese tourist on a solo holiday to Manali was raped by a taxi driver. Suddenly, two unidentified men started chasing her and her companion.

The Nepalese man is yet to be traced.Kullu superintendent of police Shalini Agnihotri said a case under Sections 376D (gang rape), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of IPC has been registered after the survivor filed a written complaint about the gang rape.“The accused and the crime scene are still unidentified. Medical examination of the victim is being conducted. We are taking help of sniffer dogs to find evidence. The CCTV footage is being examined. She had missed her bus to Dharamshala and had taken a ride in the taxi to the next bus stand to catch the bus.In July 2016, an Israeli tourist going to Manali bus stand at night to board a bus to Spiti was offered lift in a car and gang raped.In June 2013, an American tourist was offered lift in a truck from Vashisht, near Manali, by a Nepalese youth and was gang raped.In May 2012, an Australian tourist who befriended a Chandigarh youth on Facebook was raped by him in Kasol.In June 2007, a South Korean tourist was raped in Kullu.
