38yearold dies in police custody in Mandi

MANALI: A 38-year-old man, accused of smuggling charas, who was in judicial custody in district jail in Mandi since October 31, was declared brought dead by doctors of zonal hospital on Friday.The police said that deceased, Dharam Pal, resident of Markhan village of Mandi, was taken into judicial custody on Wednesday. His sister Parbati said: "Pal was unwell and had vomited right in front of the police." He also said that he has requested the deputation of competent magistrate for further investigation. According to the police, on Friday morning, the accused was found lying unmoving in his cell. He was shifted to a zonal hospital where the medical officer declared him brought dead.The deceased's kin told the media that Pal had medical issues for the last two years and that police was well aware of this.

She said instead of taking Pal to the hospital, cops took him to jail saying that he was pretending to be sick.Jail superintendent Dr Madan Kumar said that district and sessions judge has been informed of the death of a prisoner.
