SHIMLA: After alleging violation of norms in the transfer of government land to Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) in Dharamshala, the previous Congress regime headed by Virbhadra Singh had booked former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and his MP son Anurag Thakur along with others. An FIR was registered against them on August 1, 2013.After five years, the Supreme Court quashed the FIR on Friday. The ruling has come as a shot in the arms for the father-son duo as the Congress has not been able to prove that the Dhumal government had wrongly allotted land for construction of the stadium.As the ruling has come before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Anurag is set to corner the Congress on the issue of vendetta politics.Dhumal’s defeat in the last assembly election, which he contested from Sujanpur seat, has changed the political equations in the state. Following the poll result, many questioned the political future of Anurag from Hamirpur parliamentary seat, which he is representing for the third consecutive term.Many within the BJP are of the view that quashing of the FIR by the apex court will be a morale booster for both Dhumal and Anurag.The previous Congress government led by Virbhadra Singh had targeted Dhumal and Anurag under the garb of the HPCA. Virbhadra had engaged three former ministers, Kapil Sibbal, P Chidambaram and Salman khurshid , to plead the case for the government.
