BY: Sanjay ChopraMOHALI: It’s wonderful to see the introduction of glasstopped coaches on the Kalka-Shimla rail route. The Railways did a trial run of vista dome on the section recently. A train of this sort was much required, keeping in view the world heritage status of the track as given by Unesco (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).A lot many Indian and international tourists visit Shimla and the upper reaches of the Himachal Pradesh. Given the unavailability of a good air link with Shimla and other cities of the hill state, this train remains their favourite mode of travel between Chandigarh and Shimla. The new coaches having see-through glass rooftops and fitted with modified windows, cushioned interiors, designer LED lamps, and air conditioning. All these features will prove to be a boon for the tourists and regular commuters certainly, as they will be able to enjoy a panoramic view of the scenic beauty of Himachal Pradesh while sitting.The Railways should introduce more of these coaches on the other important tourist routes such as Chandigarh-Delhi, Delhi-Amritsar, and Delhi-Agra to attract foreign visitors.
