Central varsity: Minister to lay foundation stone

SHIMLA: Eight years after starting operations from a temporary campus, Central University of Himachal Pradesh can finally expect a permanent campus. Announcement of the opening of the university in every state without a central university was made on August 15, 2007. Education minister Suresh Bhardwaj is going to Dharamshala to oversee arrangements and complete formalities to lay the foundation stone of the campus. The Central University has been a sensitive issue for both the BJP and Congress, especially in Kangra district. Himachal was one of such states.The university started functioning from a temporary campus at Shahpur in Kangra during the UPA regime in January 2010.

SHIMLA: Eight years after starting operations from a temporary campus, Central University of Himachal Pradesh can finally expect a permanent campus. Education minister Suresh Bhardwaj is going to Dharamshala to oversee arrangements and complete formalities to lay the foundation stone of the campus. The Central University will have two campuses in Dehra and Dharamshala.These will be known as South Campus and North Campus respectively.Bhardwaj held meetings with officials of the education department, Central University and other departments and now, he is going to Dharamshala to complete other formalities. The Central University has been a sensitive issue for both the BJP and Congress, especially in Kangra district. Announcement of the opening of the university in every state without a central university was made on August 15, 2007. Himachal was one of such states.The university started functioning from a temporary campus at Shahpur in Kangra during the UPA regime in January 2010. But politics on the issue of campuses in Dehra or Dharamshala delayed the process. In a meeting held on October 12, the Cabinet decided to transfer government land in Dharmshala tehsil of Kangra district in favour of the Union ministry of human resource development for setting up of the Central University.
