Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission former chairman kills self

SHIMLA: Former chairman of Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission , Major General (retd) Chander Mohan Sharma allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Jakhu here on Thursday night. He had also remained instructor in the prestigious institutions like; Army War College, School of Artillery and the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi. His body was found lying in a pool of blood on Friday.After taking premature retirement from army, Sharma was appointed as the 13th chairman of Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission and remained on this post for four years from January 2009 to June 2013.Sharma's house is located close to the residence of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh . During Service, he was selected to attend all the prestigious competitive courses of the Army like; Long Gunnery, Defence Services Staff College, Senior Command and Higher Command.He had commanded an Artillery Regiment in Ladakh and an Artillery Brigade in the insurgency environment of J&K. Sources said that police has recovered a suicide note in which Sharma has mentioned about his illness due to which he was unable to sleep at night.SP, Shimla, Omapati Jamwal said that reasons behind the suicide are being probed and an investigation is on.Born in Shimla in 1951, Sharma was commissioned in Artillery Regiment of Indian Army in 1972 and had taken premature retirement after 37 years of military service.He had also served in Army Training Command (ARTRAC) Shimla where he was responsible to plan and oversee training in the Army.
