HPPSC former chairman shoots self in Shimla

SHIMLA: Former chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC), Major General Chander Mohan Sharma (retd) allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Jakhu area of Shimla on Thursday night. Sharma had commanded an artillery regiment in Ladakh and an artillery brigade in the insurgency environment of Jammu and Kashmir . Sources added that Sharma was suffering from depression for quite some time and used to sleep in a separate room. He had also attended all the prestigious competitive courses of the Army, including long gunnery, defence services staff college, senior command and higher command.

SHIMLA: Former chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC), Major General Chander Mohan Sharma (retd) allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Jakhu area of Shimla on Thursday night. Sharma’s wife found the body lying in a pool of blood in the basement room on Friday morning and informed the cops.Sharma, 67, had taken premature retirement from the Army, was the 13th chairman of HPPSC from 2009 to 2013. He is survived by wife and two sons. Sources said police found his licensed revolver used in the crime and a suicide note in which Sharma mentioned his illness due to which he was unable to sleep at night. Sources added that Sharma was suffering from depression for quite some time and used to sleep in a separate room. Shimla superintendent of police Omapati Jamwal said police had registered a case and sent the body for postmortem.Born in 1951 in Shimla, Sharma was commissioned in the Artillery Regiment of the Army in 1972 and taken a premature retirement after 37 years of service. He had also served in Army Training Command (Artrac), Shimla, where he oversaw planning and training in the Army. He had also attended all the prestigious competitive courses of the Army, including long gunnery, defence services staff college, senior command and higher command. Sharma had commanded an artillery regiment in Ladakh and an artillery brigade in the insurgency environment of Jammu and Kashmir . He also remained an instructor in the prestigious institutions including Army War College, School of Artillery and the Indian Institute of Mass Communication New Delhi.
