CAs architects under lens for Rs 700 crore loans

Investigation agencies have seized the records of bad loans that were issued during Congress government. Dharamshala: Chartered accountants and architects are under the scanner of vigilance department in a probe against a bank reeling under the burden of its non performing assets (NPA). According to him, the norms dictate that the loan limit to individuals by cooperative banks with ‘A’ rating would be Rs 60 lakh, Rs 40 lakh for banks having ‘B’ rating and Rs 25 lakh for banks having ‘C’ rating.When contacted, SP vigilance, S Arul Kumar, has confirmed that they were conducting an inquiry into the anomalies. Vigilance agencies are looking for irregularities in the loans issued by the authorities of Kangra Central Co-operative bank, one of the largest co-operative banks in Himachal Pradesh Well placed sources said that the NPA of the bank has reached 18%, nearly Rs 700 crore, and the investigative agencies were acting on the basis of a charge sheet filed by the BJP against the bad loans issued during the previous regime of Congress. Sources said that the agencies are also investigating the chartered accountants and architects who had evaluated the properties that were used to secure bad loans.In a report prepared this year by the former managing director of the bank, it was said that credit monitoring arrangements (CMA) norms of the RBI were violated while granting the loans.
