This season winter special trains to run on KalkaShimla heritage section

CHANDIGARH: The Kalka-Shimla UNESCO world heritage is gearing up to run winter special trains to manage the rush as the existing trains are already having long waiting lists.Sources said during a meeting which was held on Saturday, it was discussed that the periodic oiling of coaches, which was mandatory for all trains to make it safe, was pending.Officials pointed out that there were rakes which were lying in the workshop for the periodic oiling since long and were yet to be cleared.Besides this, the pendency of periodic oiling of some rakes was due by four months which was risky.Instructions were issued in the meeting that the rakes which were sent to the workshop for periodic oiling should be cleaned on a priority basis and should be sent to the Kalka station as winter special trains were supposed to run from December mid.Officials also discussed that due to shortage of wheels with the workshops, the rakes were not sent back to Kalka station till date.The officials also discussed that there would be four special trains which would run during this section for which rakes were required.For two trains, 55441-55442, seven rakes which included four general coaches, one first-class sleeper, one first class, a seating-cum-luggage rake were required.Another two trains, 52443-52444, there would be a need of five general coaches, one first class and one first class sleeper.During the current winter season the authorities concerned are expecting to have hike in the number of commuters as there was an increase of 30% passengers in the summer season.
