DHARAMSHALA: Dharamshala: Taking potshots at each other, BJP and Congress MLAs on Monday supported a resolution over protecting dignity of opposition legislators, who are often ignored when it comes to inaugurate or lay foundation stones of projects.On the second day of the winter session of assembly, Congress legislator from Kinnaur Jagat Singh Negi moved the resolution.In the 68-member house, 28 MLAs participated in the debate. Though both BJP and Congress leaders supported the resolution, they also did not leave any chance to attack each other on the issue. They recalled how where ruling party’s office-bearers, not holding any constitutional post, had overshadowed opposition MLA of the particular area. Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur said even he had faced such situations when he was in the opposition. He said he was ignored at various government programmes during the previous Congress regime.Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri said during a recent programme, the CM inaugurated the longest bridge of the state that came under his constituency. This project was in list of his MLA priority scheme.While there was no mention of his name, his opponent’s name whom he had defeated featured in the inauguration plate, he added.Many other MLAs raised the issue that ruling party ignores the opposition MLAs.“Improvements will be made at the chief minister’s office level and I will direct the officials that the information and invitation is sent to the legislator of respective area where the inauguration or foundation stone is to take place,” said Thakur.
