Tourism players want Dalai Lama's big teachings back to Dharamshala

DHARAMSHALA: Dying down tourism industry of this region is now eyeing for big teachings of the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, to revive the tourism sector here. However, the Dalai Lama office has listed many teachings from February this year in Dharamshala Himachal. He said that these teachings will boost the dying tourism circuit of this region.“During the teachings, the stay period of the visitors is long. It was in 1970 that the Tibetan spiritual leader had addressed Kalachakra teachings in this hill town, after that no such big teaching was organized here for last 48 years.Now, hoteliers of this hill town have approached the office of noble peace laureate to organize these teachings at Dharamshala for 2019. Kalchakra teaching is one of the biggest spiritual events hosted by the Tibetans.President of the hotel association Ashwani Bamba told TOI that they have written to the office of the Dalai Lama for the year 2019.

Kalchakra teaching is one of the biggest spiritual events hosted by the Tibetans.President of the hotel association Ashwani Bamba told TOI that they have written to the office of the Dalai Lama for the year 2019. He said that these teachings will boost the dying tourism circuit of this region.“During the teachings, the stay period of the visitors is long. It extends from 10 to 20 days. Government should also support Tibetans for hosting such events. Andhra Pradesh, Bihar , UP and governments of other states have openly extended their support to such teachings,” he said.In their two-page communication to the Dalai Lama office, they have stated that they had already hosted international matches and are going to host investor meet in coming months.Tourism industry here has suffered losses in 2018 due to action against illegal buildings. This hill destination has also lost IPL matches due to tussle between Congress and BJP which was a good source for attracting tourists to this hill town.Tenzin Takla, secretary to Dalai Lama when contacted, said that they have yet to go through the letter.Inquiries with the office of the Dalai Lama revealed that sitting the Dalai Lama has so far organized 35 Kalchakra teachings. It was in 1954 that he had addressed such teaching at Lhasa in Tibet. The last such teaching was held at Bodhgaya, Bihar. However, the Dalai Lama office has listed many teachings from February this year in Dharamshala Himachal.
