Rathore sets up panel to probe party clash in Shimla

SHIMLA: HP Congress chief Kuldeep Singh Rathore on Friday appointed a two-member team to probe the incident of clash between supporters of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh and former PCC president Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu at the party office here on Thursday.The probe team, comprising senior advocate of the Himachal Pradesh high court Nareshwar Singh Chandel and former advocate general Rupender Singh Thakur, will submit its report within 15 days. The report will then be submitted to the Congress high command.Speaking to media here on Friday, Rathore said indiscipline in the party would not be tolerated. “I will not form my own faction in the Congress,” he said and added that he would not be distracted by such incidents.Rathore claimed the clash cannot be the handiwork of Congress party workers. He said that AICC incharge for state, Rajni Patil has also taken a serious view of the matter. Differences happen within family member but these are resolved by sitting together and discussing them.Meanwhile, the party factions continued to levy allegations and counter allegations against each other. Virbhadra held Sukhu’s supporters responsible for the clash, saying they were under the influence of liquor. While interacting with media persons at his residence, Virbhadra said the clash was uncalled for and that he was deeply hurt by it. It should be ensured that such incidents do not happen again, he added.Meanwhile, Sukhu claimed that during his tenure as PCC chief he had focused on uniting the party workers and that no such incident had happened in the last six years. Brushing aside the claims of the rival faction, he said that it hardly mattered who was saying what as there is an entire video recording of the incident at the state party office.
