2 MLAs wear lsquoNamo Againrsquo sweatshirts to HP assembly told to not wear them

Shimla: Two BJP MLAs wore sweatshirts with ‘Namo Again’ written on them to Himachal Pradesh state assembly’s budget session on Wednesday, but were told to not to wear such clothes again by assembly speaker Rajeev Bindal after Congress objected to it.Leader of opposition Mukesh Agnihotri objected to the MLAs wearing the sweatshirts, saying that it was against parliamentary traditions. Interacting with media persons outside the House, Agnihotri said “Namo Again” was BJP’s agenda for poll campaign and House rules made it clear that no one could wear clothes indicative of a poll campaign . After more Congress legislators raised the issue, speaker Rajeev Bindal directed BJP MLAs Surinder Shourie and Vinod Kumar not to wear such clothes again.He directed them to respect the sanctity of House. He said the Congress had no issues against the BJP government in Himachal Pradesh and that was why it was trying to make the sweatshirts an issue.

He said a written complaint had been made by Congress chief whip Jagat Singh Negi to the speaker.Shourie said Agnihotri’s reaction only showed the Congress’s “frustration”. He said the Hamirpur MP of BJP, Anurag Thakur, had worn the same sweatshirt with “Namo Again’ written on it to Lok Sabha and no one had objected to it in Parliament. He said the Congress had no issues against the BJP government in Himachal Pradesh and that was why it was trying to make the sweatshirts an issue.
