Elevated road on Kalka-Shimla National Highway to ease traffic woes

PANCHKULA: The residents of Sector 20 has a reason to cheer as the Haryana government has sent a plan of constructing an elevated road and two U-turns on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway to facilitate hassle-free entry to Sector 20 which at present takes 20 minutes to enter the sector through a single narrow road. MLA, Gian Chand Gupta, said, “The underpass was not feasible here so we decided to make an elevated road after discussion with the technical experts and it will end the traffic congestion on the light point for which the design and plan has been sent to the NHAI.” With the help of the PWD, the designs were made. This was a long pending demand of the residents.As per the information given by the technical advisor of the government, Vishal Seth, he said after examining, a design for approval has been sent to the Ministry of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) through Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar Under the design, a flyover bridge and two footover bridges with escalator across the NH-22 and two U-turn on NH-22 has been proposed. A final design has been sent to the ministry for approval and the construction work will be started soon after approval.Seth said, “This elevated highway will be constructed between Sectors 12 and 12 A on the western side and of Sector 20 and 21 on the eastern side.” House owners welfare association members said, “There are around 15,000 people living in Sector 20, and around 20,000 people are living in both Sector 21 and Peer Muchalla which makes it a total of around 35,000 people living in the area”.
