Himachal assembly pays homage to Pulwama martyrs

After paying homage, House observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect towards martyrs and later House was adjourned for the day. He said that following Pulwama incident, high alert has been sounded in all the districts of Himachal Pradesh . Unlike others days, there was pin drop silence with members from treasury and opposition sides and Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur moved to resolution to pay homage to 42 martyrs of CRPF’s 54th Battalion.He said that one of the martyr Tilak Raj belonged to Dhavan village in Jawali area of Kangra district and this incident was a very unfortunate and cowardly act by terrorists and said that those involved in this incident would not go unpunished. After paying homage, House was adjourned for the day.Jai Ram Thakur said that the State Government would provide all possible assistance to the bereaved family members of the martyr Tilak Raj. He said that Rs 20 lakh would be provided as ex gratia grant to the bereaved family members. He said that following Pulwama incident, high alert has been sounded in all the districts of Himachal Pradesh . He said that security has been beefed up in borders along J&K in Kangra and Chamba districts.While paying their homage, Sainik Welfare Minister Mahender Singh, MLA Suresh Kashyap and MLA Bikram Singh Jaryal, all ex-servicemen, said that if needed they would again provide their services to army to fight the enemy.Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri said that Congress Legislature Party is with Government of India and families of martyrs. He said there is no doubt that Pakistan is behind this incident. He said it seems now terrorists are targeting army and army establishments. He said that terrorists who were dropped at Kandhar are behind this incident and time has come to deal them with iron hands. He requested Centre to give befitting reply.Mahender Singh Thakur said that he had fought war of 1971 and if needed he is ready to go to the battle field again. He said that Pulwama was the cowardly act of terrorists and it seems Pakistan has forgot past defeat in the battles.Former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said that incident proves that borders are not safe. He said that incident also raises serious concerns and effective steps should be taken to ensure such incidents are not repeated in future.MLA Rakesh Singha said that he would also contribute to the ex-gratia amount announced by Chief Minister to the family of martyr Tilak Raj.MLA Col Inder Singh said that enemies hiding within the country needs to be identified. He said that he himself has remained in army and it cannot happen that movement of army was being constantly updated to terrorists.MLA Col Dhani Ram Shandil said that such attacks are not possible without the assistance of internal enemies.MLA Rakesh Pathania said that martyr Tilak Raj has two sons and one of them is just 30 days old. MLA Nand Lal advocated direct attack on Pakistan.Speaker Dr Rajeev Bindal said that while securing the borders 70,000 soldiers have sacrificed their loves for the nation in last 40 years. After paying homage, House observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect towards martyrs and later House was adjourned for the day.
