In HP Cong gets 40 applications for 4 LS seat tickets

Shimla: Congress has received 40 application for tickets from four parliamentary constituencies of Shimla, Hamirpur, Mandi and Kangra. He said some leaders have not applied for the ticket, but could be asked to do so. Sources said either Kaul Singh Thakur or Virbhadra could be the party choice.From Hamirpur, 11 leaders have applied for the ticket including MLA Rajinder Singh Rana’s son Abhishek. But many big names who could be fielded by the party high command have not applied. From Mandi, seven leaders have applied but the party is keen on a candidate who can reclaim this seat lost in 2014 to BJP newcomer Ram Swaroop Sharma.

As Congress had lost on all four seats in 2014, it is expected that party would field candidates with mass base and potential to win.From Kangra, senior leaders like Asha Kumari, G S Bali and Sudhir Sharma have not applied but anyone of them could have been fielded. Similarly from Mandi, senior leaders like Virbhadra Singh and Kaul Singh Thakur have not applied but anyone of them could have been fielded.Though from Kangra seat, seven Congress leaders, including former MP Chander Kumar and former minister Thakur Singh Bharmauri, have applied for the ticket, sources said Asha, Bali and Sharma are among the strong contenders. From Mandi, seven leaders have applied but the party is keen on a candidate who can reclaim this seat lost in 2014 to BJP newcomer Ram Swaroop Sharma. Sources said either Kaul Singh Thakur or Virbhadra could be the party choice.From Hamirpur, 11 leaders have applied for the ticket including MLA Rajinder Singh Rana’s son Abhishek. The MLA had defeated former CM Prem Kumar Dhumal in the assembly election from Sujanpur seat. Sources said despite the MLA not having applied for the ticket, the party may ask either him or AICC secretary Rajesh Dharmani, who has remained MLA from Ghumarwin, to contest.From Shimla (SC) parliamentary seat, 15 leaders, including Col Dhani Ram Shandil and Vinod Sultanpuri, have applied for the ticket. Sources said the party could pick either Shandil or Sultanpuri. Shandil has an edge as he has represented this seat earlier while Sultanpuri lost the assembly elections twice.HPCC president Kuldeep Singh Rathore said the Congress high command had done its own survey and to ensure that all four seats are reclaimed, wants to field candidates with winnability factor. He said some leaders have not applied for the ticket, but could be asked to do so. “We will recommend the names, but the final decision will be taken by the party high command,” he added.Ticket aspirants:Kangra seat:Karan Singh Pathania, Dr Rajesh Sharma, Thakur Singh Bharmauri, Jagdish Sapahia, Chander Kumar, Kuldeep Singh Pathania and Vishal Chambial.Mandi seat:Budhi Singh Thakur, Vidya Negi, Adityavikram Singh, Deepak Sharma, Keshav Naik, Sanjeev Guleria and Kewal Kumar.Hamirpur seat:Lt Col Dharmender Patial, Abhishek Rana, Anita Verma, Bumber Thakur, Capt Amrik Singh, Subhash Chand Dhatwalia, Dr Ganesh Dutt Bharwal, Col Bidhi Chand Lagwal, Krishan Kumar, Vikash Kashyap and Sunil Sharma.Shimla seat:Col Dhani Ram Shandil, Sohan Lal, Surender Garg, Amit Nanda, Gurdyal Singh Panwar, Gangu Ram Musafir, Budh Ram Azad, Devender Singh Bhatia, Satya Gazta, Dr Ashwani Kumar, Oam Prakash Kataria, Vinod Kumar Sultanpuri, Megh Raj Dhangta, Sohan Lal and Atma Ram
