Himachal Pradesh: Cloud Burst in Dharamshala, Flights Cancelled

Cloud burst in Dharmashala takes the car floating on roads with floods of water. 

Monsoon is cherished only until it does not take away life. Himachal Pradesh`s Dharamshala has witnessed cloudbursts, flash floods, and widespread destruction.  Videos of flashflood in Dharmshala, an extremely popular tourist destination for many in North India’s Plains, have gone viral. As of now, there is no news of any casualty from any area of Himachal Pradesh.

According to Dharamshala airport’s traffic in-charge Gaurav Kumar, all incoming flights to the airport have been cancelled due to inclement weather and heavy rains in the region.

Dharamshala is currently packed with tourists from Delhi and other surrounding areas. A video has surfaced online showing a huge amount of mud gushing into the town. Luxury cars are seen floating in the flashflood. Deputy Commissioner Nipun Jindal has also said that what happened in Bhagsu Nag can’t be categorised as a ‘cloud burst’. Jindal says that it looks like a case of flash flood triggered by heavy rains.

Shimla’s National Highway has been blocked near Jhakri in Rampur area. Many tourists are feared to be stuck due to the blockade. Latest reports say that the IMD has predicted more rains in Himachal Pradesh. The IMD forecast says that heavy downpour will be seen till Wednesday.
