Ramsubhag Singh, a 1987 batch Indian Administrative Service officer and resident of Uttar Pradesh, has become the new Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh.

Ramsubhag Singh, a 1987 batch Indian Administrative Service officer and resident of Uttar Pradesh, has become the new Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh. After the resignation of outgoing Chief Secretary Anil Kumar Khachi from government service on Thursday, Jairam Sarkar issued orders for the appointment of Ramsubhag Singh. The government also relaxed the notice period of three months for resignation. Khachi has been appointed as the new State Election Commissioner by the government.

On Wednesday, there was a stir in this regard in the assembly for the whole day. Earlier, the term of State Election Commissioner P Mitra had ended in May. Anil Khachi, a 1986 batch IAS officer, was appointed as the Chief Secretary on January 1, 2020. The government has made this important change before the by-elections and the upcoming assembly elections.

Opposition party Congress walked out of the house protesting this appointment in the assembly.
The Congress has alleged that a Himachal Pradesh resident was removed from the post of chief secretary to bring in an "outsider".

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said that it is the prerogative of the State Government to appoint the Chief Secretary. The House cannot decide who will be the Chief Secretary and the issue cannot be discussed in the House. On this the Congress MLAs created a ruckus and started shouting slogans.
