Govt trying to resolve standoff on Adani owned cement plants: Principal Advisor to HP CM

  • | Saturday | 17th December, 2022

The Himachal Pradesh government is committed to resolving the standoff that led to the shutting down of Adani Group owned cement plants at Barmana and Darlaghat, said Naresh Chauhan, Principal Advisor to Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu. Addressing media persons here on Saturday, he said that even though Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is outside the state he is closely monitoring the situation that has arisen due to the deadlock between the cement company and the transporters regarding the transportation charges. Chief Secretary R D Dhiman has been directed by the CM to depute the Deputy Commissioners of Bilaspur and Solan to take effective measures to end the deadlock, he added. He said that the state government is taking legal action and had also issued show cause notices to Adani Group owned cement plants for shutting down operations without prior intimation. As the livelihood of 15,500 people and their families is associated with the two cement plants, the Chief Minister is trying to resolve the dispute, he said. The state government is also contemplating to make alternate arrangements to ensure that development is not brought to a standstill owing to shortage of cement bags in the state, said Chauhan, adding that talks are on with other state governments to help tide over the shortage of cement bags. The state government is also striving for a clean and green environment for which electric vehicles will be promoted, he said, adding that in the next five years’ electric vehicles will be purchased by the state government for the various departments of the government. The Adani Group in the month of September had acquired the ACC cement plant at Gaggal in Bilaspur and Ambuja cement plant in Darlaghat in Solan. However on Thursday it shut down its operations for an unspecified period without prior intimation.
