SHIMLA: Shimla municipal corporation will soon upgrade its water distribution system by implementing Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system in the township. The method of charging bills for domestic and commercial users will remain the same," Shimla mayor Sanjay Chauhan said. The municipal corporation will replace the 29,000 water meters in Shimla, out of which 22,000 are domestic and 7,000 commercial. Once the meters under AMR are installed, consumers will get bills on actual consumption of water, which will reduce losses to the civic body. It would gradually replace the obsolete technology meters funded under Atal Mission Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). Chauhan said the work on the project will start this week and after its completion in two months, bills will be generated automatically on a monthly basis by meter reading.
