25 rescued from Sach Pass in Chamba

SHIMLA: Around 25 people who were stranded at Sach Pass at 14,478 feet in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday in the face of sudden change in weather, were rescued safely on Thursday. He said deputy commissioners must ensure the evacuation of establishments, labour colonies and settlements along-with the riverbed in low lying areas and hydro power project authorities should ensure that no water is released from reservoirs without warning and they should ensure proper dissemination of alerts at least 24 hours before releasing of the water. Telecom service providers were asked to ensure that flash SMS messages containing advisories regarding natural and human induced hazards be sent to tourists when they enter the state.Pharka said hydroelectric project proponents should give the warning of release of water from dams in advance to the local administration and the people downstream. Sources said inclement weather conditions on Wednesday had left the passengers including chief judicial magistrate of Pathankot , along with four vehicles and 12 motorcycles, trapped at Sach Pass en route Pangi.After receiving the information, Chamba deputy commissioner Sudesh Kumar Mokhta sent two rescue teams including one medical staff from Pangi and another from Tissa to evacuate the trapped people, who were brought to safety at Baghotu.While presiding over a meeting of senior officers of various departments and representatives from central agencies held in Shimla on Thursday, state chief secretary V C Pharka directed the deputy commissioners to generate mass awareness amongst tourists, trekkers and public for taking precautionary measures.
