Kotkhai rape: 8 police officials sent to 3-day remand

The team had taken them to New Delhi for interrogation and brought them back to Shimla on Sunday. The agency will file its report in the HP high court on September 6. All accused were lodged at Boileuganj police station during the night and were under CBI custody.CBI had sought further eight days' remand on the ground that interrogation of the accused had not been completed. SHIMLA: Eight police officials of Himachal Pradesh , including IGP Zahoo H Zaidi, who were arrested on August 29 by the CBI in an ongoing investigation of a case related to the custodial death of a rape accused Suraj Singh were presented before the special CBI court in Shimla on Monday and sent to three-day remand.The accused were produced in the special CBI court on August 29 and remanded in police custody till September 4.The CBI team conducted a medical examination of the arrested police officials, who have been suspended following their arrest, before presenting them in the court around 3.30pm. However, the court granted only three days' remand and fixed the next hearing on September 7.Those arrested and kept in CBI custody include IGP Zaidi, who was heading the SIT to probe into Kotkhai gangrape and murder case, then DSP (Theog) Manoj Joshi, then Kotkhai police station SHO senior inspector Rajender Singh, ASI Deep Chand, head constables Surat Singh, Mohan Lal and Rafiq Ali and constable Ranjit Streta.The CBI is also questioning other police officials including then Shimla SP D W Negi, former ASP Bhajan Dev Negi, who was part of SIT, and DSP Rattan Singh Negi in Delhi.
