‘Pilgrimage begins to Himachal with onset of Navratri fair’

DHARAMSHALA: The famous goddess shrines of Himachal Pradesh are decked up for nine day long 'Navratri fair' which started from Thursday. Liveliness is back to the markets, particularly the temple towns are fully geared up to cash in on the frenzy. Arrangements to host the crowds from across the globe were put in place by the administrations. CCTVs cameras and police posts, inquiry windows and free health facilities will be available during these days in temples.Heavy vehicular movement these days will also slow down the traffic on national highways connecting these shrines. The fair have also increased the number beggars in the area perturbing the local residents of the area.Witnessing a dull business for last few days since August, the beginning of Navratras has given enough reasons to the retailers and wholesalers in Himachal to rejoice.

Parking lots were identified and traffic plans were chalked out to regulate the vehicular movement.Brajeshwari, Chamunda and Jawala Devi temple in Kangra district, Chintpurni in Una district and Naina Devi in Bilaspur were the famous shrines which receives hordes of devotees from various parts of the globe during these days.Free food stalls popularly known as langars have come on the national highways to host the pilgrims. Authorities of the region have issued directions to the hoteliers, showroom owners and other entrepreneurs to avoid the roadside parking which adds to chaos during these days.Transport minister GS Bali said that special buses will start during these days from neighboring states. "Special 40 Buses will start from Haryana, Punjab, Uttrakhand, Delhi and Chandigarh" said Bali adding that 20 of them will connect major shrines while other 20 will be deployed on demand.Officials told that about 1000 cops were deployed at the shrines to regulate the crowd.
