MANALI: Ayurveda can bring revolutionary changes to the social and economic lives of people of ancient Malana village as the altitude of the area is best for plantation of medicinal herbs that have good demand in the market, Himachal Pradesh governor Acharya Devvrat, who is the first governor to have reached this village, said addressing the residents.The governor started cleanliness, drug de-addiction and education campaigns in the village and distributed 20 LPG connections to the poor families under PM Ujjwa la Yojana. He said people of Malana have preserved their ancient culture and traditions which is worth praising, but they should move forward along with rest of the world.Malana, which is said to be the oldest surviving democracy where people believe in their own customs and traditions, has its own rules and laws and villagers do not welcome intervention by outsiders.The village with population of about 1,800 has the lowest literacy rate in the state and only one youth has graduated from the village.Malana is notorious for production of world's most expensive charas and the governor asked villagers to adopt herb cultivation as its substitute."Malana is now famous worldwide but lack of cleanliness is a big problem here.
