Kullu among top 14 clean districts

To keep up with the ranking in the wake of weeklong Kullu Dusshera festival, which will begin from September 30, the district administration has already geared up to maintain the cleanliness with a special focus on waste plastic management.Kullu deputy commissioner Yunus Khan said in the criteria fixed by the ministry , the district had qualified with flying colours. "It is a matter of pride not only for the district but for the entire Himachal Pradesh," he said, adding that maintaining cleanliness was a continuous process that required active participation of the officials of all departments, elected representatives along with general public. " After getting the first position, now maintaining cleanliness has become a collective responsibility of all," the DC added.He said that during the we ek-long Dusshera festival in which thousands of people participate from across the country , special attention will be paid in maintaining cleanliness.The deputy commissioner said, "During the festival, plastic waste is generated in huge quantities. Keeping that in mind, this time we have decided that plastic and polythene waste will not be dumped with regular garbage. Rather, it would be segregated and used in manufacturing carpet and decorative items. NGOs will be roped in for the purpose and the district administration will provide required assistance to them."
