17-year-old CJM student found hanging

DEHRADUN: A 17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence in IT Park in Rajpur police station limits on Thursday. Earlier on March 15, a 21-year-old student of IIT-Roorkee had committed suicide in his hostel room. The girl’s father works at Ordnance Factory while her mother is a teacher.The girl’s suicide is the latest in a series of students taking their own lives. The girl, Arundhati Kumar , was a student of class 10 at Convent of Jesus and Mary School and her board examinations were ongoing. On February 26, a 22-year-old MBBS student at Srinagar Medical College hanged herself in her hostel room and mentioned “non-interest in MBBS and examination pressure” in her suicide note.In November 2017, a 19-year-old student of the Gobind Ballabh Pant University committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her hostel room.

According to R K Farswan, circle officer (CO), Rajpur, “The girl was found hanging in her room by the parents when they reached home after work in the evening. She had been alone in the house.”The CO said that it was no clear why the girl took the extreme step. Police have not ruled out that the girl may have been under stress due to her exams. The girl’s father works at Ordnance Factory while her mother is a teacher.The girl’s suicide is the latest in a series of students taking their own lives. Earlier on March 15, a 21-year-old student of IIT-Roorkee had committed suicide in his hostel room. Police had suspected that he was addicted to self-harm games like Blue Whale. On February 26, a 22-year-old MBBS student at Srinagar Medical College hanged herself in her hostel room and mentioned “non-interest in MBBS and examination pressure” in her suicide note.In November 2017, a 19-year-old student of the Gobind Ballabh Pant University committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her hostel room.
