SRINAGAR: An 18-year-old civilian and two Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists were killed in a counter-insurgency operation in Kundalan village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.More than 50 people, including a JCO and an Army soldier, were injured when terrorist sympathisers trying to disrupt the operation clashed with security forces near the encounter site. However, agency reports put the number of injured at 120.Personnel from the Army, Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K police and CRPF were conducting a cordon and search operation in the area when holed-in terrorists opened fire, triggering a gunfight in which two terrorists were killed. One of the terrorists was identified as Sameer Ahmad Sheikh from Shopian’s Rawalpora, a school dropout who had joined the outfit in April 2018, whlie the other was identified as Babar, a JeM commander from Pakistan “On the basis of documents and other incriminating evidence obtained from the encounter site, one of the slain terrorists was identified as Sameer Ahmad Sheikh from Shopian’s Rawalpora. He was a school dropout and had joined the terror outfit after going missing from his home in April 2018. The second terrorist was identified as Babar, a JeM commander from Pakistan. Both were involved in several attacks on security establishments and civilians,” said police. Some arms and ammunition were also recovered.
