Travel agency owner held for duping foreigners

NEW DELHI: The owner of a well-known travel agency in Connaught Place was arrested from Srinagar on the charge of duping foreigners by posing as a government-authorised travel planner. The agency had been operating from an office near a mosque in Outer Circle near Panchkuian Road since 2007. It was found that foreigners would be sold grand tour packages but given low-priced services.After doing business through winter, the owner, Idrees Shamshad Bhat, would shut shop and return to Srinagar in summer. He even challanged her to take action against the agency. “We have registered a case of cheating and impersonation against the travel agency owner,” said DCP (New Delhi) Madhur Verma.Additional DCP Shobhit Saxena started an inquiry after a tourist from Canada filed a complaint against Bhat who had taken money in advance from the victim for a tour package to Rajasthan.
