2 officers among 17 cops killed since January

A senior police officer said, "We've had 1,500 of our men martyred since 1990.This year since January , 17 men including two officers were killed by the terrorists and their sympathizers." This year, a particularly bad one, at least 17 cops including two officers have fallen in the line of duty.Despite being armed, the police have been under orders to remain strapped while dealing with militancy , and even ordinary law and order troubles routinely degenerate into unbridled violence. In recent months and years, cops have been seen avoiding carrying their police Icards for fear of being targeted. These advisories end up shaking the confidence of cops and instil fear in heir minds. "Sometimes we're asked not visit our homes for fear of terror attack. Now, we've been advised to offer Eid prayers in secured mosques," he added. These advisories end up shaking the confidence of cops and instil fear in heir minds. In recent months and years, cops have been seen avoiding carrying their police Icards for fear of being targeted. Another police officer said on condition of anonymity , "Look at the way one of our colleagues, DSP Mohammad Ayub Pandith , was killed at Jamia Masjid by a crowd.What are we supposed to do faced with mobs?" It's a question whether chief minister Mehbooba Mufti 's "hardening" of stand will work, an officer said.
