SRINAGAR: The army, police and local ponywallahs, besides the staff of the cable car operator, helped avoid another accident by quickly rescuing nearly 150 panicked tourists on Sunday afternoon following the mishap in Gulmarg in which seven persons, including two minor girls, died.General manager of Gondola Cable Car Corporation , which operates the ride, Riyaz Ahmad said, efforts were promptly coordinated to repair the affected section of the cable. "Troops swiftly spanned the entire stretch of the Gondola cable and assured tourists of their safety and calmed them down to avoid mass panic leading to another accident," he said.Gulmarg MLA, Mohammad Abbas Wani said troops of the Army Garrison at Gulmarg immediately swung into action. "The columns were launched ex Gulmarg and Sarson to render all assistance, while the seven dead bodies were immediately evacuated in close coordination with police,ponywallahs and the allterrain vehicle operators."Shameem Ahmad, manag ing director of Godola Cable Car , said: "Doctors on standby rendered first aid. The army also offered two guest rooms to families who wanted to stay put for the night ."
