Surat Municipal Corporation starts recovery of Rs 46 cr property tax from Reliance, BSNL

Surat: Officials of Varachha zone of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) carried out demolition at Kiran Gems and Prakash Jewellers compound on Friday and removed encroachments there. According to the officials, while constructing Effil Tower and Kiran Gems factory, the owners had allegedly encroached upon constructed land while constructing the compound walls.“The walls were demolished and encroached areas were freed by our staff on Friday,” zonal head Varachha zone of SMC Jatin Desai said.“We expect the owners to demolish the remaining portion of the encroached area,” an official said.Two days ago, in coordination committee meeting of SMC, local MLA Pravin Ghoghari had alleged that some people were spared during demolition due to their clout in the ruling BJP party.
