SVNIT holds online voting for students union

Yash Patel was elected sports secretary, R N Venkata Ramkrishna Deepak as research innovation affairs secretary, Vipul Parulekar as hostel affairs secretary and Kapil Sharma is cultural affairs secretary. Surat: Vineet Sahu was elected general secretary of students union of the Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) in the first-ever online students council election held on Friday.About 48 per cent voting was registered and eight members elected to different posts in the students council.SVNIT dean of students welfare Dr R A Christian said, “The whole process went off well. Some 1,375 students of the total 2,800 cast their votes in the elections and the results were announced within 10 minutes of the polls getting over.”This was first election where everything was done online from filing of nominations, scrutiny and withdrawal of papers, voting and declaration of results.
