Surat civic body officer caught accepting bribe

In property bill of the house, the name of a tenant is registered as holder of the property. The trap was conducted by C K Patel, police inspector and supervised by R S Patel, assistant director, ACB. SURAT: Anti-corruption bureau in Surat arrested an assessment and recovery officer posted in Varachha zone of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) while accepting bribe of Rs 5,000 on Thursday.P K Jariwala, the accused officer was caught accepting the bribe money at his office.Officials said the officer had demanded money to mention the name of a property owner in the property tax bill.A complaint against the accused was lodged by a Varachha resident from whose relative the accused had demanded bribe.The relative of the complainant is owns a house in Varachha. Later the complainant approached ACB and lodged complaint. The tenant recently shifted to some other location after which the owner of the property approached SMC to replace tenant’s name with his own as the holder of the property.Even after many days of submitting the application Jariwala was not taking any action and refused to replace the name if not paid Rs 5,000 bribe.
