More than 15 lakh take part in intn’l Yoga fest in Surat

Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) had organized Yoga events at 53 places and around 1,34,066 citizens performed Yoga there. Surat: More than 15 lakh people participated in different events to mark International Day of Yoga in Surat on Thursday.Over 12,000 people, including state minister Ganpat Vasava, performed different Yogasanas at the district-level function held at Sarsana Convention Centre. Some 7,36,705 students performed Yoga at 1,991 educational institutions and 5,35,291 people at the programmes organized by NGOs. Six nagarpalikas too organized Yoga programmes in the district and around 10,456 people took part in them. At least 81,762 people did Yoga at 333 different places in different talukas of the district.

In all Yoga programmes were held at 3,334 places in Surat district and city and more than 15 lakh people participated in them.Mayor Dr Jagdish Patel, MP CR Paatil, district collector Dhaval Patel, Veer Narmada South Gujarat University vice-chancellor Dr Shivendra Gupta and some MLAs were among those who did Yoga at Sarsana Convention Centre.Participants did Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Ardha Chakrasana, Salabhasana, Bhujangasana, Trikonasana, Shashankasana, Makrasana, Bhaktasana and Pawanmuktasana under the guidance of Yoga teachers. They also did Kapalbharti, Anulom Vilom, Bhrastrika and Bhramri Pranayam. In the end, Shavasana and Dhayan asanas enriched the participants.SMC had put up hoardings at 10 different places and banners at 250 sites to attract people in large numbers at its Yoga events.
