Surat gets city award for implementation of projects under Smart City Mission

Surat: Surat Smart City Mission has been chosen for city award for showing great momentum in the implementation of different projects. It would be given during the two-day meeting of Smart City Mission to be held in Jaipur from July 7.Surat is alone to get award in the city category under Smart City Mission for its work in the areas of urban environment, mobility, transport and sustainable integrated development, sources said.Surat Smart City Mission had a total outlay of Rs2,908 crore when it began on June 25, 2015. At the end of three years, Surat has completed 17 of the total of 58 projects worth Rs173.31 crore. The award was announced on June 20 by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. Intelligent transit management system (ITMS), SMAC centre and visual improvement-street light projects are among those completed.

Intelligent transit management system (ITMS), SMAC centre and visual improvement-street light projects are among those completed. Twenty-six projects worth Rs2005.86 crore are at different stages of implementation while 15 worth Rs728.83 crore are in tendering stage.The mega projects in the process of implementation are: Integrated transport mobility administration centre; automatic fare collection system; intelligent traffic control system; area surveillance network; connected Surat Wi-Fi; 120 MLD water treatment plant; common transmission line; 24x7 water supply with smart metres; modernization of Anjana and Dindoli sewage treatment plant; wastewater recycling and reuse; water recharging with rainwater through storm line; smart roads-visual improvements; affordable housing; remodelling and reconstruction of Koyli khadi; innovation, incubation and start-up trade facilitation centre and smart waste collection system among others.Municipal commissioner M Thennarasan said, “The credit for this goes to the SMC team, including the elected wing. It is a matter of pride for Surtis to be on top among the 100 cities in the country.”
