SURAT: Employees of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) affiliated to various unions took out a rally to SMC headquarters here on Tuesday to protest against the mandatory online attendance rule and change in salary date.The SMC headquarters was packed with employees belonging to various departments under the leadership of SMC Unions’ Steering Committee. Such employees are facing a lot of difficulties because of change in the salary date.” Here, the authorities are taking decision on their own and imposing it on the employees. Many employees have to pay instalments on loans between first and seventh of every month. The employees use their personal mobile phones and can’t be compelled to download the mobile application to file their attendance as per the law.”Shaikh added, “We have demanded that all the employees be paid their salary on the first day of the month.

The employees shouted slogans against municipal commissioner for forcing the employees to register attendance using special mobile application and extending the salary date from first to seventh of every month.The leaders of the steering committee submitted a memorandum to municipal commissioner M Thennarasan demanding revocation of the resolution forcing the employees to register their attendance through mobile application.SMC Unions’ Steering Committee convener Mohammed Iqbal Shaikh said, “It is mandatory for the municipal commissioner to discuss about new resolutions/changes related to employees with the steering committee board members. Here, the authorities are taking decision on their own and imposing it on the employees. The employees use their personal mobile phones and can’t be compelled to download the mobile application to file their attendance as per the law.”Shaikh added, “We have demanded that all the employees be paid their salary on the first day of the month.
