Creeks in the city generally swell when there is very heavy rainfall in adjacent talukas of Bardoli, Palsana, Kamrej. However, Limbayat, Bhatena and some areas of Udhna witnessed severe waterlogging.“Due to the embankment on Mithi khadi, we had some protection this time and there was not much overflow,” an official from Limbayat zone said.

Surat: Two of the five creeks in Surat began to overflow due to rains since Thursday morning. As a result, nearly 50% of Limbayat zone was inundated in water. Mithi Khadi (creek) was flowing above danger level at 7.45 metre, whereas Bhedwad khadi with danger level of 6.75 metre was flowing at 6.90 metre at 1.30 pm. The district administration was getting itself ready to shift people in low-lying areas to safe locations.Luckily, the dry spell on Thursday afternoon saved the administration from shifting people. However, Limbayat, Bhatena and some areas of Udhna witnessed severe waterlogging.“Due to the embankment on Mithi khadi, we had some protection this time and there was not much overflow,” an official from Limbayat zone said. “With rains stopping at noon, waters receded quickly,” he addedHowever, water level in Mithi khadi didn’t come down as it started raining heavily after 12 noon in Kamrej (76mm), Choryasi (93mm) and Bardoli (56mm). Creeks in the city generally swell when there is very heavy rainfall in adjacent talukas of Bardoli, Palsana, Kamrej. These creeks also flood whole of Udhna and Limbayat and Bhethena when there is normal rainfall in the city.Meanwhile during the day, Bardoli recorded 56mm, Choryasi 93mm, Kamrej 76mm, Mahuva 47mm and Mandvi 52mm and Palsana 60mm of rains on the day.In the next 48 hours, forecast of very heavy rain in Surat and nearby areas is there. People have been asked to stay alert by the administration.Municipal commissioner M Thennarasan said, “We have taken a review of the situation and are prepared to deal with any situation.
