Cops 2 others booked for bid to rob a man held with liquor

However, officials at Puna police station claimed that the complaint was registered after the Baldaniya approached them.Police booked Gabru Malsur, a Lok Rakshak Dal (LRD) constable and another LRD jawan of Khatodara police station, whose identity was not disclosed, for allegedly thrashing Baldaniya.

Surat: Four persons including two policemen , were booked for trying to rob a person who was allegedly nabbed with a 180ml liquor bottle in Narayannagar area.Puna police also booked the cops for disappearance of evidence and wilful breach of law.Sources in police department said that the issue came to light when the injured complainant Bhanji alias Bhuro Baladaniya’s photos went viral. Taking cognizance, some police officers instructed registration of a complaint. However, officials at Puna police station claimed that the complaint was registered after the Baldaniya approached them.Police booked Gabru Malsur, a Lok Rakshak Dal (LRD) constable and another LRD jawan of Khatodara police station, whose identity was not disclosed, for allegedly thrashing Baldaniya. One of the cops allegedly hit him with a stick and demanded Rs 10,000 for not registering a complaint.After amendment in Gujarat Prohibition Act, the maximum punishment for possessing liquor is 10 years and minimum seven years.Baldaniya told the cops that he had no money after which they again thrashed him and reduced their demand to Rs 7,000. They and two others continued thrashing him as he refused to pay up.“Baldaniya identified one constable while attempts are on to identify others involved. Involvement of two policemen is confirmed,” said an officer of Puna police station.
